In this task, you’ll see a single sentence with one missing or partially hidden word. This question type appears 6 to 9 times on the Duolingo English test.Your job is to figure out and type the word that best completes the sentence. Sometimes part of the word is visible, or you might see blank spaces where letters should go.
This question checks how well you can understand vocabulary in context. To answer correctly, you need to look at the meaning of the entire sentence — not just the missing word. The right answer usually depends on both grammar (what part of speech fits) and context (what makes sense in the situation).
